I want you, 2018, Framed

A renowned composer and Jazz vocalist in her own right, Cécile McLorin Salvant has a parallel visual arts practice, producing works that range from large-scale textiles to hand-drawn animation and unique drawings on paper. These ink and watercolor works reflect a commingling of Salvant’s visual and aural language—mining her huge repository of experiences and references, whose influences range freely across time and space, and curating them into eclectic new arrangements. The resulting works enable a playful, improvised viewing experience akin to that of the musical journeys Salvant takes listeners on—unearthing lost memories, evoking humorous interplays and suggesting new lyrical possibilities.

Cécile McLorin Salvant, b. 1989, Miami, is an artist and acclaimed jazz vocalist living in New York. Spanning genres and mediums, Salvant’s artistic practice has few boundaries.
