Corrientes S IV, 2020

In this series of paintings, Blanca Guerrero reflects on the transient yet meditative elements of nature. Guerrero explores the natural movements, “corrientes” as the native Spanish artist describes, often of water or wind moving through wild grasses. Fluid brushstrokes in a muted palette recall the subtleties of currents in motion. Working on an intimate scale, Guerrero’s abstracted compositions recreate the tranquility of observing nature’s inherent ebbs and flows, and more broadly, forces that remain out of our control. This work was previously exhibited in the artist’s 2020 solo exhibition Corrientes at Art Cake, Brooklyn.

Blanca Guerrero, b. 1990, Madrid, is a visual artist who currently lives and works in Madrid, and was formerly based in Brooklyn. Guerrero was raised in New York City and holds a BFA in Printmaking from the Rhode Island School of Design. Her minimalist approach is influenced by architecture and her own avid photography practice. Guerrero’s work has been exhibited internationally in New York, Spain, and Japan.
