La Romana, I, 2017

In a practice that encompasses painting, collages, drawing, and photography, Blanca Guerrero explores the perception of transient elemental states, such as fog, haze, or wind. While Guerrero’s photography has long informed her paintings and acted as a visual diary, this series of photographs was the first to be presented alongside her paintings in her 2020 exhibition Corrientes, held at 6BASE in Brooklyn. Capturing currents of wind and water across different landscapes, these closely-cropped photographs freeze moments of shifting states, where natural forces subtly manifest in texture, light, and form. Here, Guerrero suspends the moment of a tide rushing back into the sea as it creates a fleeting patterning in the sand.

Blanca Guerrero, b. 1990, Madrid, is a visual artist who currently lives and works in Madrid, and was formerly based in Brooklyn. Guerrero was raised in New York City and holds a BFA in Printmaking from the Rhode Island School of Design. Her minimalist approach is influenced by architecture and her own avid photography practice. Guerrero’s work has been exhibited internationally in New York, Spain, and Japan.
