Ana Kras’ distinctive economy of line on the page serves to draw out a profound blankness from the negative space. In this negative space we are provided a chance to rest in stillness, held confidently by the definition, timbre, and sincerity of the line work. Kras’ predisposition to seek natural balance amongst figure and ground may be derived from her work in design and photography, where she captures the intimate clarity of a moment poised between negative and positive space—exemplified perhaps in her threaded Bonbon lanterns that suggest both volume and void.
