Please join us this Thursday for a fundraiser poetry reading hosted and organized by Smart Girl Club. The event will be raising money for Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) and Center for Reproductive Rights. A zine compiling poetry and drawings titled Poems for Peace will be available to purchase, and Smart Girl Club will consequently donate 100% of the proceeds to MALDEF and Center for Reproductive Rights. There will also be donation boxes for both organizations. We will be accepting cash only for the zine.
Poems for Peace contributors include Jessica Butler, Kayla Ephros, Sade Keinu, Milah Ruby Libin, Amanya Maloba, Tali Ramsey, Amhara Rein, Rafelina Sanchez, María Fernanda Snellings, Eden Sterling, Ashley Thompson, Victoria Villier, and Sara Wasserman.
The Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund is a national non-profit civil rights organization formed in 1968 to protect the rights of Latinos in the United States.
The Center for Reproductive Rights is a nonprofit, legal advocacy organization that promotes and defends the reproductive rights of women worldwide.
Smart Girl Club is an urban feminist collective based in the arts and community outreach. Founded by Destiny Frasqueri and Milah Libin, Smart Girl Club aims to empower women of all shapes, sizes, colors, sexualities, and orientations by focusing on creative collaboration and celebration between women. Smart Girl Club has hosted workshops, led panel discussions at universities such as Harvard and The New School, held pop-up shops, hosted concerts, produced music videos, and more.
